Dual
Enrollment
Many
high school students are taking advantage of dual enrollment
opportunities available in the Northwest Florida panhandle.
DUAL
ENROLLMENT FOR COLLEGE CREDIT
"Dual enrollment is when a student is
simultaneously enrolled in high school and college courses in
either a community college or state university. The credits earned
are counted toward both the high school diploma and either an
associate degree, a vocational certificate, or a baccalaureate
degree. In 1996 legislation was passed to allow registered
homeschoolers free tuition, just as public and private school
students have enjoyed for years.
"Homeschoolers
have been provided an invaluable opportunity to accelerate their
education and establish a college GPA tuition-free. This is an
excellent way for a student to take upper level courses that you
do not feel qualified to teach and to ease the student into
college life. Students must take placement tests to see if they
qualify and can handle college level courses but no grade point
average is required. Entrance requirements vary with colleges, so
individual schools should be contacted for further
information."

PENSACOLA JUNIOR COLLEGE
High school students are able to take post-secondary courses
to earn high school credits, while at the same time receiving
college credits towards a Vocational Certificate or an Associate
or Baccalaureate Degree. PJC has recently reformed their
policies concerning high school sophomores taking classes at PJC.
All juniors and seniors are welcome to complete a College
Placement Test (CPT) before qualifying to take classes at PJC.
High school students must have a "Dual Enrollment Approval
Form" signed by CIAS's principal before registering, so come
by the school office to pick one up. Contact Mary Eslinger
in the dual enrollment office at 484-1659.
UNIVERISTY OF WEST FLORIDA
UWF has a limited dual enrollment program, predominately for
Fine Arts students.
GEORGE STONE VOCATIONAL-TECHNICAL CENTER (Escambia County)
LOCKLIN VOCATIONAL-TECHNICAL CENTER (Santa Rosa County)
Students who are sixteen years of age or older or enrolled in
grades 10-12 are eligible to apply for a job preparatory program
at George Stone. Admission to George Stone is contingent
upon the mutual consent of the principal of CIAS and the directors
of the vocational schools. We wholeheartedly approve of
students taking classes that will enhance their skills as adults
in our world.

a Florida-based umbrella school, but students who dual-enroll in
these institutions are legally covered by CIAS. This applies
to the school listed below as well.
